When Chelsea handed a huge amount of transfer funds to former manager Frank Lampard last summer, the essence was so that the manager could make player additions to the squad that will be highly beneficial to their plans of challenging for trophies in the coming season. Lampard then did his best on the transfer window to bring in the likes of Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, and others as he looked to build a team, he thought would be capable of winning the Premier League title.
After a couple of appearances for the Blues under Lampard, there was a need to carry out an assessment on their performances. They were failing to convince the club’s bosses that the signings were needed, and it eventually cost Lampard his job in the end. The club’s striker, Werner, who was brought in from RB Leipzig in that summer, was one of the most underperforming players in the squad as he failed to find the form that saw Chelsea pay a huge sum for his transfer.
After Roman Abramovic parted ways with Lampard, he appointed Thomas Tuchel as the new boss and Werner has continued to struggle to score goals. This has made the club’s former star William Gallas to urge the Blues that they should sign another proven striker this summer, especially with reports claiming that Tammy Abraham could be allowed to leave in the summer. Gallas said Chelsea need to sign a top striker to partner Werner so they can compete for trophies next season.
